Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium PDF Print E-mail

My daughter and I recently visited Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium http://www.mote.org in Sarasota, Florida. This was our first visit and we were very impressed with the helpful staff and volunteers. I knew that I wanted to post information on our trip so I emailed them to make sure it was okay. Jamie Tacy, who is the Aquarium Marketing & Public Relations Coordinator, agreed and was very helpful in providing additional information.

Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium was founded in 1955 by Dr. Eugenie Clark and now has a staff of 247. 150 college student interns and 1400 volunteers annually donate more than 200,000 hours of work. Mote Aquarium receives nearly 400,000 visitors from around the world annually. The three aquarium exhibit areas include: Fishes & Invertebrates, Marine Mammal Research & Rehabilitation Center and Immersion Cinema.

Educating the public has been at the heart of Mote’s overall mission. Mote educates the public through three centers that include: Center for Distance Learning, Center for School and Public Programs and the Center for Volunteer and Intern Resources. Each year these centers are able to teach more than 15,000 K-12 students through: distance learning, internships, field trips and lectures.
